SPOTLIGHT ON OUR 2020/21 WINNER FOR MOST IGFA POINTS FOR THE SEASON;

SAM JENSEN

Who is Sam Jensen?

If you don’t know and you were at our clubs prizegiving awards you would have certainly heard his name being called out to collect his fair share of certificates and trophies. Why? Because he’s a keen fisherman who has been lucky enough to have his love of fishing installed by his Dad and Grandpa who are always “keen to go, which helps a lot to find a crew at short notice” so they spend a lot of time together along with likeminded friends fishing and contributing to the TSFC’s Clubs records. Sam, his family and friends mainly fish on his Grandpa’s launch “Reality” which is a 43ft Oliver and they also fish on a 6.2m trailer boat named “Lawless”. Sam’s favourite place to fish has been either the Astrolabe or Waihau, this has been incredibly exciting for Sam who caught his first Marlin at Astrolabe when he was only 9 years old and because of that stayed one his favourite places. A great accomplishment at any age but for 9 year old Sam, it has set him on the way for his love of fishing and now a young man he now wishes to be more consistent with his game fishing over the next few years. His proudest moment is the last fishing season which seen Sam catch a 229 kilo Swordfish (a great catch considering Sam’s favourite seafood to eat is Swordfish steak done on the BBQ). Sam is well on his way to achieving his goal. I asked Sam – A: What is a fishing moment involving yourself that your friends and family like to share? A: “I had a good trip with one of my friends this season on his first day gamefishing. We managed to catch a Marlin at Astrolabe on a livebait which we were both stoked about. It weighed in at 150.5 kilos and was the first Marlin with me as skipper along with the first Marlin for the Angler” Not only a great day fishing for them but also another example of the great character of our club members that not only celebrate their own successes but the accomplishments of others. Well done Sam on all your achievements thus far and we look forward to celebrating your next ones as you embrace your love of sport fishing. – TSFC.

Volunteers
