IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE:
As you are no doubt aware on 3rd December 2021 the Government is implementing the New Zealand Covid-19 Protection Framework (Traffic Light System).
At the Club’s Committee meeting last night, 23rd November, it was agreed that from 3rd December anyone 12 years and over wanting to enter the Club must be fully vaccinated and in possession of their vaccine passport/QR Code. The Club will have either their QR code ready to scan or do a physical check of members and visitors passports/QR Codes in the foyer before people enter the Club’s Bar and Cafe.
With regard tournaments, the Committee agreed the Club has no control over who can and can’t fish a tournament. That is a decision for the skipper of the boat to make. With regard the weigh station. The Committee believe that with social distancing, wearing masks while completing catch cards/weighing fish and using the contact tracer App, the weigh masters will be able to carry out their duties similar to what they do now.
We will keep you updated on any changes to the above when this Protection Framework gets underway from 3rd December.

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR 2020/21 WINNER FOR MOST IGFA POINTS FOR THE SEASON;

SAM JENSEN

Who is Sam Jensen?

If you don’t know and you were at our clubs prizegiving awards you would have certainly heard his name being called out to collect his fair share of certificates and trophies. Why? Because he’s a keen fisherman who has been lucky enough to have his love of fishing installed by his Dad and Grandpa who are always “keen to go, which helps a lot to find a crew at short notice” so they spend a lot of time together along with likeminded friends fishing and contributing to the TSFC’s Clubs records. Sam, his family and friends mainly fish on his Grandpa’s launch “Reality” which is a 43ft Oliver and they also fish on a 6.2m trailer boat named “Lawless”. Sam’s favourite place to fish has been either the Astrolabe or Waihau, this has been incredibly exciting for Sam who caught his first Marlin at Astrolabe when he was only 9 years old and because of that stayed one his favourite places. A great accomplishment at any age but for 9 year old Sam, it has set him on the way for his love of fishing and now a young man he now wishes to be more consistent with his game fishing over the next few years. His proudest moment is the last fishing season which seen Sam catch a 229 kilo Swordfish (a great catch considering Sam’s favourite seafood to eat is Swordfish steak done on the BBQ). Sam is well on his way to achieving his goal. I asked Sam – A: What is a fishing moment involving yourself that your friends and family like to share? A: “I had a good trip with one of my friends this season on his first day gamefishing. We managed to catch a Marlin at Astrolabe on a livebait which we were both stoked about. It weighed in at 150.5 kilos and was the first Marlin with me as skipper along with the first Marlin for the Angler” Not only a great day fishing for them but also another example of the great character of our club members that not only celebrate their own successes but the accomplishments of others. Well done Sam on all your achievements thus far and we look forward to celebrating your next ones as you embrace your love of sport fishing. – TSFC.

STOP!
Two serious matters that need to be addressed.
1) VHF Channel 3: The Club are the proud owners of VHF Channel 3 but are receiving more and more complaints from concerned members about the abusive language and total disrespect for others some people are showing while using Channel 3. For those that aren’t aware, every call is recorded. While the Club has not actioned these recordings as yet, if the abuse of Channel 3 continues we will take the next steps required to stop this happening, including shutting the channel down when abusive users persist in using the channel.

2) Fish heads and skeletons in the Marina. There have been a number of incidences lately of fish heads and skeletons found floating in the Marine, which is just not on.
We don’t know who is responsible, and hopefully it is not any Club members, so this is just a reminder to all that it is your responsibility to dispose of all fish remains in an appropriate manner.

WOW WHAT A GREAT DAY!Last Saturday dawned an absolute stunner of a day to hold the First Mortgage Trust-Take a Kid Fishing Competition. 60 plus kids went hard out to catch Kahawai, Mackerel, Snapper, Spotties and Trevally. There were heaps of smiles at weigh in time and thanks to our generous sponsor First Mortgage Trust, supported by Higher Safe NZ there were some amazing prizes handed out at prize giving. A great day had by all and I bet some of the little pirates slept very well on Saturday night. We look forward to doing it all again next year.
