Tauranga Fishing Report 16th September

FISHING REPORT FOR RADIO HAURAKI, NEWS TALK, RADIO TALKBACK – 16th September 2016

Scallop season is well underway and with scallops presently nice and fat, with many of the local beds receiving a good amount of attention. Good news for local shellfish gathers earlier this month some shellfish gathering bans being uplifted. For the most up to date information visit the Toi Te Ora Public Health Service website.

Bad weather has hampered the Mount Motor Cycles Albacore Hapuka tournament, now postponed until next weekend of the 24/25th September.  The couple of fine days this week meant a couple of boats catching reports albacore just north of Mayor, so that’s really encouraging stuff.

For now though the best options for putting a feed on the table have come from the snapper stray-lining efforts at Motiti Island (fish there 35-40cm being plentiful) and terakihi now in as close as 3 mile reef now although mostly on the smaller size.

Coming up for the TSFC is the Monster Trout Tournament based on the shores of Lake Rotoiti and kicksoff on the 30th September- 2 October. Tickets, tackle and all the best fishing advice available from the Hamills Tauranga up on Cameron Rd. Or to find out more hit www.tsfc.co.nz
